Forget This Good Thing I Just Said

A collaboration with poet and author Colin Dodds — turning his book of aphorisms into an interactive oracle, inspired by Burroughs’ cut-ups and the I-Ching.

Process

THE PROBLEM
How do you turn a book into something that isn't just a digitized copy? Each aphorism had to appear as its own unit, floating in space, handled like a deck of cards.

CHANCE, WITH INTENT
We wanted pseudo-randomness tied to the device's own state — so the aphorism you're shown feels connected to the moment you're in.

THE INTERACTION
I sketched a 360° pull-to-reveal gesture with resistance and a bounce-back threshold, so dismissing an aphorism felt deliberate.
